Measles Alert

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has alerted all schools about measles cases in New Zealand.  Measles is a highly infectious disease that can affect adults and children.  There have been 182 cases of measles in New Zealand this year, and 33 of these people had to go to hospital.

Symptoms include:
  • Fever, cough, red eyes and a runny nose.
  • This is followed by a rash which usually starts on the face before moving over the head and the body.
  • Sometimes further medical complications may occur.
The MoH have offered schools the following information:
  • Please make sure that you and your children’s immunisations are all up to date.
  • Anyone born after 1st January 1969 should ensure they are fully immunised.
We are required to keep an immunisation register and it is extremely important that Maraeroa School has your child’s immunisation status up to date.  Please remember to provide a copy of your child’s immunisation status so that our register can be updated.

Important information is attached at the bottom of this page.
